(Closed) The Naughty Corner Gelato House – Blk 685 Hougang Street 61

(The Naughty Corner Gelato House has since ceased operations.)

It’s amazing how so many ice-cream parlours had actually sprouted up in the late around the heartlands, serving up ice-cream that are churned by themselves.

The Naughty Corner Gelato House takes a spot that is the least likely for an ice-cream parlour to open — it takes a corner of a lottery shop beside an ATM machine. Given the space allocated to the ice-cream parlour, The Naughty Corner is a kiosk that has no seating space — all orders are strictly takeaway. The variety of ice-cream here is actually rather unique, with uncommon flavours being lined up with classic ones to suit those who prefer safer flavours. Ice-cream is served in cups, cones or even with waffles; the waffles sit within a larger bowl here.

(Limecetta Cheesecake and Root Beer Float)

We visited The Naughty Corner Gelato House in their very first day of their opening; they were running a 1-for-1 promotion where the purchase of a scoop entitles one to another scoop for free. Amongst the flavours available that day, we picked the Limecetta Cheesecake and the Root Beer Float; the former being a Premium flavour that is charged at a higher price. Both scoops had a creamy and smooth consistency; they were also pretty light on the palate without being overly sweet. The Limecetta Cheesecake was refreshing — carries a Key Lime-like zippiness at first, which helps to cut through the light cheesiness that comes after. The Root Beer Float carried a light hint of flavor from the popular beverage, yet smooth and creamy without being extremely sweet; we actually found ourselves loving both flavours that we had ordered.

The Naughty Corner Gelato House is probably the best definition of being the humble, friendly neighbourhood ice-cream parlour that kids would walk past to gawk at the ice-creams hoping their parents would give in to their pleas for ice-cream; the location is prominent, while the set-up is pretty simple and down-to-earth and seemingly non-pretentious. One thing I particularly liked about The Naughty Corner Gelato House is their variety of flavours available for their ice-cream; not particularly conventional with quite a number of unique offerings that actually sound good and taste good and of a respectable quality. With that, The Naughty Corner is a hidden gem in the area; a place that would probably serve the residents in the neighbourhood pretty well that is worth stopping by if in the area.
