Simplicite Cafe – East Coast Road (Closed)

(Simplicite Cafe had since ceased operations.)

Simplicite Cafe is just one of the few new ice-cream parlours that had recently opened in the East, and also one of the two within the East Coast Road area.

Unlike ice-cream parlours of the late that seems claustrophobic trying to pack in as many seats as possible in a tiny area, Simplicite Cafe looks slightly more spacious, and there were quite a few tables around that is able to fit six; great for small group gatherings. Menu-wise, the offerings here are rather similar to most other ice-cream parlours. There seems to be other items on the menu, such as Bar Nuts and even cakes which were unavailable during our visit.

(CLassic Waffles with Hazelnut + Fleu Di Latte)

Their signature item here would be the Blossom Waffle, but since we were looking for something lighter we decided go for the Classic Waffle which comes without the special shape that it is in and fruits. For the choices of gelato, we went with Hazelnut and Fleu Di Latte. The waffles here require some improvement, which we already gave our feedback to the owners. While the batter seemed pretty decent, the waffle seemed to be a tad overdone as there was a lingering bitterness in the waffles here. Gelato were the star here though; all of them thick, smooth and creamy. Both flavours were rather rich; Fleu Di Latte was a milk flavour that had a fragrant and prominent flavours of milk while the Hazelnut was smooth, nutty and chocolatey. Simplicite Cafe seems to do rather well in their nutty flavours especially; we also tried the Pistachio flavour which was very nutty.

Simplicite Cafe is a decent addition to the neighbourhood; we quite liked their ice-cream though we hoped they can be more creative and innovative with their flavours in the long run, offering more flavours such as the “You can’t guess this!” (it’s a fruit by the way) to differentiate themselves from other ice-cream parlours, especially since there are many ice-cream parlours that had opened recently in Singapore. Still, this is a good spot for dessert if you are looking for a spot to chill after a meal at the main stretch of shophouses at East Coast Road.
