Having tried their famous Chicken Kiev from the now-defunct Ang Mo Kio outlet, I was craving for it and decided to visit the main outlet at Crawford to check them out.
Unlike the Ang Mo Kio outlet which was more of an open-air restaurant, the original is a stall within a hawker centre.
We were here for the Chicken Kiev, which is somewhat similar to my favourite dish; Chicken Corden Bleu. Basically chicken breast wrapped with ham and cheese inside, it also comes with a choice of your preferred sides. By default, it comes with fries and seasonal vegetables. They were generous with their filling, with the oozing cheese that was stringy goodness. The chicken breast was also tender, though the complimenting black pepper sauce was a little too sour for my liking. The fries were thick and fluffy, seasoned with salt before serving to taste. Seasoned vegetables were soft and lightly salted too.
Battered Fish is similar to Fish & Chips. The batter here is fried till golden, which is all crispy and fish was flaky and smooth. The homemade tartar sauce here was somewhat on the sweeter end; great for those who find the one from McDonald’s too sour for their liking.
Happy Chef Western Food is not just a stall serving western food; it is a place that takes pride in the food they are serving and achieving a restaurant-like quality at affordable prices. They also serve dishes that are hard-to-find here, which increases the novelty factor. If you are looking for affordable western food, or if you are finding a place that serves great Chicken Kiev, this is the place that you should check out!
