Tarte by Cheryl Koh – Shaw House (Moved)

(Tarte by Cheryl Koh had since shifted to its own shop space with a dine-in area at the second level of Shaw Centre. Click here to read more about the new space.)

Tarte by Cheryl Koh is the latest dining concept of the Les Amis Group, which owns multiple F&B brands such as Comnam, Nam Nam Noodle Bar, L’Entrecote, Aoki, Pepperoni Pizzeria etc.

Situated within the same row of shops ask Aoki and Caveau Bar, Tarte by Cheryl Koh features French style tarts made from premium ingredients by Les Amis pastry chef Cheryl Koh. The selection of tarts available that day would be displayed in the display counter, with two sizes available. While the shop space is generally catered for takeaway, patrons can opt for dine-in, where seats at neighbouring Caveau Bar can be arranged and coffee can be ordered to pair up with the tarts.

(Seasonal Fruits Tart)

The seasonal fruit tart of the day was the Mango Tart, which was made from Indian Alphonso Mangoes that sits atop a light vanilla cream residing in a tart base. Tart base was light, yet holds up very well, while the vanila cream was pretty airy and bore subtle flavours of vanilla that was more milky. We especially loved the mangoes, all of which just of the right ripeness which bore a really sweet flavour yet also a tang as well.

(Coffee Tart)

Made from Roasted Colombian Coffee, the Coffee Tart was a winner for me. It had a really fragrant aroma of coffee and a pretty roasty flavour that sits atop a Creme Brulee filling that resides in the tart base, which is subtly sweet and custardy but in no way in conflict with that deep coffee flavour. Personally I preferred this over the Mango Tart; perhaps I am not a person who particularly likes fruit tarts.

On the first look, perhaps the first thought about Tarte by Cheryl Koh might be the slightly higher price tag, though it is actually considered pretty much near the market rate comparing them to certain patissiers or cafes in town or even in neighbourhoods. We also thought that the price waa considered pretty reasonable for the quality and ingredients used. Service was pretty decent as well for a takeaway shop, especially with the chef herself sharing about the different tarts as well. If you are into dessert tarts, this is a spot you might want to check out!
