(Arterial had since ceased operations.)
If there is a cafe out there with nine lives, I guess 24 Temple Street would be the location. Previously the address for CrazyWorld and Table 24, the location is now the home of new Chinatown cafe, Arterial.
I had not been to its predecessors before, but I have heard that part of Arterial’s decor had been carried from Table 24, such as the wall decor with pots and pans hanging on the wall. Currently, in its soft opening stage, there is a choice of sandwiches and pasta available, as well as coffee, tea and other beverages. Do take note that you would have to ask the staff about the food menu as they do not have a printed copy of it during our visit.
Egg Cetera is the name of their mushroom open-faced sandwich. Despite its name, it does not come default with an egg and an addition of egg and feta cheese in the sandwich is charged at an extra cost of $2.00 (the service staff had no idea why but promised to feedback to the owner about it). Garlic toast served with beetroot, rocket, cherry tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms on top, the toast had ample flavour with its crispness. Opt for the egg too; the wobbly yolk of the sunny-side-up just breaks with a touch of the fork to drench the other ingredients with its goodness. The combination of the ingredients was flavourful, yet tasting simple and clean as it felt completely ridden off the extra seasoning, thus achieving a somewhat natural taste; definitely good if you are aiming for something healthier. Being an open-faced sandwich means it’s also less carb-intensive due to the omission of a sandwich layer; something I really liked.
Coffee is made from blends supplied by Liberty Coffee; one of my favourite roasters in Singapore. Despite the lack of Latte Art, the Flat White impressed with its inner charm. Strong, robust body with a distinctive nutty tone, it was bold in flavours but soothing at the same time. Kudos to the barista for that!
I have been rather sick and tired of cafe offerings of the late, for most places are serving identical food that is barely impressive. Arterial is different; good vibes from the staff make it feel vibrant, and the food is pretty good though it is just a slight twist from the usual. Even more impressive is the coffee. I could not get enough of what Arterial has to offer and left impressed. I guess I would be back again once Arterial officially opens; can’t wait to check out what they could offer!
