(Soi 55 has since ceased operations at Golden Shoe Car Park and had expanded operations with three outlets in Ang Mo Kio, The Cathay and 1 Shenton Way. Updated addresses below.)
Soi 55 had been around for quite some time as a pop-up stall, which we were glad that they had finally found a permanent home at Market Street Food Centre where we could visit.
Currently, the menu is rather limited as they are only serving beverages for now, such as Thai Milk Tea and Coffee. The concept here is largely similar to Bubble Tea stalls, however, as they offer toppings to go along with their drinks.
(Thai Milk Coffee + Red Ruby)
I went for the most unlikely one of all beverages, bringing Red Ruby into my Thai Milk Coffee. Despite the two not sounding too compatible with each other, they went on pretty well; the Thai Milk Coffee was decent as it was milky and sufficiently sweet; just like how the Thais would have done it. Red Ruby has this chewing sensation that creates quite a nice bite, and it infused a light flavour of tapioca which gave the coffee another dimension of flavour.
Soi55 is one of those new-generation hawker centre stalls that injects a new life to the hawker scene. The concept may be simple, but it is interesting and being in town, in would definitely attract the working crowd who would be more drawn to unique concepts like this. Hopefully, they would be able to offer some food in the future; at least I would see where the “snacks” come from the name.
