A while back, I posted a photo on my Instagram on a Salted Caramel Ice-Cream that did not taste too up-the-mark, following which someone recommended me a stall I should go to at Robinsons Orchard that serves up great gelato. The stall turned out to be Le Chocolatier, which sells premium chocolate in the basement which also carries Venchi Gelato.
Venchi’s company history could be traced back to 1878, originating from Italy, with its main line of business in chocolate and extending to gelato in 2006. The variety of flavours served at Le Chocolatier includes quite a few basics, such as Vanilla and Chocolate Mint, as well as more modern ones such as Salted Caramel.
The flavour that was recommended was the Salted Caramel, which I decided to try out. While a lot of places carry heavy tasting variations of this flavour, Venchi’s was light; it just did not contained the overly-scorched aftertaste without losing that bittersweet balance. There were also crumbs mixed in the creamy and smooth gelato for the crunch.
Venchi’s gelato has the premium and quality touch that makes it very worth the price, even though its slightly more costly than some places. Hopefully this could spark Venchi to open up ice-cream kiosks in Singapore; this is some serious gelato that one should definitely try!
