(Waffle Slayer had since ceased operations.)
Using the former shop space of Stranger’s Reunion before they had expanded, Waffle Slayer is operating under Stranger’s Reunion that focuses on their forte; Buttermilk Waffles.
While Stranger’s Reunion do serve Buttermilk Waffles on their own, Waffle Slayer offers a larger variety by having eight new variants of sweet and two more savoury waffles on top of the original options currently available. Since Waffle Slayer shares the same kitchen as Stranger’s Reunion, Waffle Slayer also serves up Stranger’s Reunion menu as well; a good idea where patrons can actually grab seats at Waffle Slayer if Stranger’s Reunion is full.
(Chicken Schnitzel Buttermilk Waffles)
While we wanted to try the savoury waffles badly, we were a bit too chickened out to try the Squid Ink Waffles. We eventually decided to have the special of the day; the Chicken Schnitzel Buttermilk Waffles. It comes with a thick slab of fried chicken atop of the standard Buttermilk Waffles with mayonnaise drizzled over. Chicken was surprisingly huge, crispy and juicy. The slice of lemon adds a nice tint of sourness over the chicken, which makes it blend to the waffle better. The Kaffir Lime Mayo added seemed to add a slight confusion in flavour which was savoury but somehow did not really match with the Buttermilk Waffles that came with its own light touch of fragrance, though it seemed to boil down to the preference of one’s tastebuds.
(Apple Almond Crumble)
The Apple Almond Crumble Buttermilk Waffles seemed more like my sort of waffle, probably due to it being a sweet waffle. The crumbles were crunchy and subtly sweetener, and makes a perfect combination with the finely chopped almonds and the caramalised apples. I thought that the caramalised apples were somehow a bit too heavy on taste on its own, but worked out well if mixed with the vanilla ice-cream.
The drinks menu of Waffles Slayer remains largely similar to that of Stranger’s Reunion. The Magic seemed better than my first attempt at Stranger’s Reunion; intense, milky and robust.
Waffle Slayer apparently is a great place to slay some waffles if you are into waffles and love the Buttermilk Waffles that Stranger’s Reunion serves. I have heard of some inconsistency on their food and service, especially during weekends when they are crowded, so it would probably be better to head down on a weekday to avoid disappointment (this visit is made on a Monday).
