Despite being one of the “aging” neighbourhoods in Singapore, there had been a recent revamp in the F&B establishments operating within Bukit Merah Central.
While we were quite sad to see Streets of London (the new outlets are nowhere located near to us) and Le Bon Vivant go, the new tenants are equally, if not more exciting. Pan Delights takes over the space left behind by Streets of London, and after a series of renovations it has transformed into a more chic, trendy and less haphazard space without the awkwardly random feel that the previous owners have left it in.
Truffle Fries are part of the Ala Carte menu that is available throughout the day. While the taste is not overpowering, it was pretty evident through the whole bucket while the fries were thick, fluffy and crispy. A truffle mayo dip is also served alongside with the Truffle Fries as well.
They were serving the dinner menu when we visited, which includes pasta and mains. We shared a Pork Roulade which came pretty huge and good for two small eaters to share. The Pork Shoulder was wrapped in bacon, while stuffed with walnuts and caramalised apples. It had a unique texture with the first layer being stringy from the bacon, followed by the meaty bite of the Pork Shoulder and then the crunch of the walnuts. Different dimensions of taste could also be felt from the savoury bacon all the way to the nutty core. We especially loved how matching the Caramelised Apple sauce was with the mashed potato as well.
(Beer-battered Fish & Chips)
Crispy on the outside and flaky in the inside, the Beer-battered Fish & Chips was a joy to have, especially when the fish was free from any odour. The fries was a bit inconsistent with some being darker than the rest though.
Being four days old on the date of visit, it seems that the food here is generally commendable, save for a hiccup or two that was not too bothering. The dishes were innovative, which gives it a distinction from other bistros. For those who are looking for a place to go for dinner that serves alcohol, Pan Delights do serve a selection of alcohol as well.
