The quiet estate of Eng Kong Terrace receives yet another cafe into the neighbourhood as Lynn’s Cakes and Coffee moves in after the opening of Necessary Provisions earlier this year. Located just a few doors away, the week old cafe is an easy find considering if you have ever been to Necessary Provisions.
Unlike its mysterious neighbour which dark yet charming, Lynn’s Cakes and Coffee is bright, cozy and welcoming with a chic yet simply designed interior. A display of the cakes offered greets you as you walk through the door.
(Mama’s Fruit Cake)
Mama’s Fruit Cake is a steamed cake with raisins included, as such the cake has a sticky texture rather than being fluffy. The cake felt rather similar to a Sticky Date Pudding less the caramel, but with an extra chew of the large raisins inside.
The Carrot Cake definitely looked the part with the thick layer of Mascarpone Cheese on top. Despite the lack of a middle layer of cream, there amount of cheese was reasonable without being overpowering. There was also quite a bit of carrot bits for a chew. It would have been better if the cake could hold up better though; the cake was quite crumbly as we sliced our way through it.
For a start, Lynn’s Cakes and Coffee serves pretty decent cakes that are worth the buck. The comfortable atmosphere makes one feel at ease whilst enjoying a cup of coffee and a slice of cake on a lazy afternoon. Currently there might be some hiccups in the operations, given the fact that they are just a week into business, but I hope they get the hang of it as time goes along. As much as I love Necessary Provisions, the cakes at Lynn’s Cakes and Coffee gives them a run for their money, and I would like to see both make it through for the long-term.
