(Lady M had since ceased operations at Marina Square. It still operates at other locations in Singapore such as Orchard Central and Westgate. Addresses for the other outlets are listed below.)
Lady M’s first Singapore outlet located at The Dining Edition at the Marina Square created much hype, especially when they are the proud creators of the Mille Crepe. Despite it being a month ever since they opened, Lady M is still attracting a steady stream of patrons; all of whom have come down specially for the Mille Crepe. Since we were at Marina Square, we decided to pay them a visit to understand what the hype was all about.
(Vanilla Mille Crepe)
The signature Vanilla Mille Crepe contains twenty layers of crepe with pastry cream in between. Each layer was stacked above each other tightly, which makes it easier to cut without the layers sliding away from each other after a few slices. The light pastry cream is also subtly sweet and smooth, complementing the glazed caramel on the top of the Mille Crepe. A seasonal Matcha flavoured Mille Crepe is also available for Maccha lovers as well.
The Gateau Nuage is your typical New York Cheesecake. The base is made from Graham crackers, which gives the crumbly texture but without the hard biscuit-like crunchiness with its thinness. The whipped cheesecake filling is slightly wet, therefore giving a velvety smooth glide down the throat. It is hard to find a Cheesecake that is this indulging these days.
(Banana Mille Feuille)
The Banana Mille Feuille is a puff pastry filled with whipped cream, bananas and vanilla sponge cake. We loved how fresh the bananas were, and the crispiness of the puff pastry. The whipped cream was lightly sweet, leaving the taste of the bananas relatively undisturbed. Generally, the different elements of the Mille Feuille were great, but the vanilla sponge gave it a variance in texture that did not really catch me.
Having been to Lady M myself, I can now understand all the hype and excitement over its launch in Singapore. The cakes do not only look the part, they also taste the part. There is only one qualm, which is the service. While we were there, one of the patrons managed to get a table of 6 to 10 when he/she was the only guest who have reached the venue for around 10 minutes when there was quite a queue waiting to get in which was pretty unfair to the people in the queue. Probably the staff should have only allowed entry when all the guests have arrived so as to ensure waiting times are kept low for the patrons with all guests present. Apart from that my dining experience at Lady M was a pleasant one. While it would not be a place that I would visit every now and then, it was life-changing enough to make me return whenever I am nearby.
